We are thrilled to announce that our Intermediate Conference organsied under the framework of the European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF) 2024 in Budapest has been a great success! The event saw a remarkable turnout, with numerous attendees engaging enthusiastically in our session. Our speakers, moderated by Ms. Serena Battaglia, Project Officer (HaDEA) of all the projects’ cluster, excelled in presenting synthetic data from various project perspectives, sparking a wealth of intriguing questions and discussions. This interaction not only highlighted the depth of interest in our work but also highlighted the importance and impact of our researches.
Our session, titled “Showcasing Innovative Research for Synthetic Data Generation from the HealthData4EU Cluster Projects: AISYM4MED, SYNTHEMA, SECURED,” was organised by the HealthData4EU Cluster. The Cluster is the result of the synergy with other 5 different projects, SYNTHEMA, SECURED, PHASE IV AI, FLUTE, and PHEMS, funded under the same call.
The session covered innovative approaches and results from key projects of the HealthData4EU Cluster, each with distinct objectives:
- AISYM4MED (Dr. Luis Rosado, Fraunhofer AICOS Portugal) focused on evaluating the realism, representativeness, and usefulness of synthetic medical data. It introduced an open-source library for data auditing, featuring metrics for assessing synthetic data quality across various modalities, and presented preliminary findings on how the platform can assist healthcare professionals.
- SYNTHEMA ( Dr. Sofia Tsekeridou, Netcompany – Intrasoft) addressed accessing scarce data to generate synthetic data securely and in a privacy-preserving manner. The project focused on federating scarce data to enhance synthetic data generation, reduce biases, and improve data quality, particularly for rare diseases. It also explored the technology supporting secure and privacy-preserving federated training of synthetic data generation models, considering ethical and legal constraints.
- SECURED ( Prof. Francesco Regazzoni, University of Amsterdam & Universitá della Svizzera Italiana) provided an overview of privacy-preserving technologies for health applications, summarizing their advantages and limitations, and evaluating their suitability for health applications while highlighting challenges and opportunities in the domain.
The forum provided an invaluable platform for exploring new synergies and collaborations. It has enabled us to better understand how we can collectively enhance the efficiency of health data systems. We are excited about the potential partnerships and innovations that will emerge from these discussions.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a memorable and productive experience. We look forward to continuing our journey towards a more efficient and collaborative health data ecosystem.
